The Center for Mine Reclamation Studies is a dedicated institution for research, academic study, and community engagement, focusing on developing innovative techniques and methods to rehabilitate environments and ecosystems degraded by mining operations

Post-Mining Land Reclamation Policy is regulated under the following laws and regulations:

  1. Law No. 11/1967 on Basic Provisions of Mining
  2. Law No. 23/1997 on Environmental Management
  3. Law No. 26/2007 on Spatial Planning
  4. Government Regulation No. 27/1999 on Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL)
  5. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 18/2008 on Mine Reclamation and Closure
  6. Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 1827/2018 on Guidelines for the Implementation of Good Mining Practices

Post-mining land reclamation is a complex activity that requires the involvement of various scientific disciplines. In order to support and improve the success of reclamation efforts, experts from multiple disciplines at IPB University who are involved in land reclamation activities have come together to establish a dedicated institution known as the Center for Mine Reclamation Studies, abbreviated as REKLATAM.

REKLATAM was established under IPB Rector’s Decree No. 093/I3/OT/2008 to make meaningful contributions, particularly in the following areas:

  • Development of science and technology in the field of land reclamation, especially post-mining land reclamation;
  • Establishment of networks with educational institutions, research centers, government agencies, and the business sector, especially the mining industry;
  • Creation of educational opportunities for students; and
  • Development of opportunities to enhance institutional revenue.
